Avatar HD v38.43.4 firmware brings mobile APP for Walksnail Goggles X

Walksnail Avatar HD v38.43.4 firmware

The latest Walksnail Avatar HD (v38.43.4) firmware includes the long-awaited mobile application for the Goggles X. If you download and unpack the zip file, you will notice that there are five folders inside, the one named “Goggles X beta APP” contains the “Caddxfpv_beta.apk” that can be run on Android phones.

The “Firmware” folder has seven hardware upgrade files:

  • AvatarMoonlight_Sky_15.1.16.img for Walsnail Moonlinght
  • Avatar_Sky_38.43.4.img for Avatar HD VTXs
  • AvatarLite_Gnd_38.43.4.img for the new Avatar Goggles L
  • AvatarMini_Gnd_38.43.4.img for FatShark FPV headset
  • AvatarSE_Gnd_38.43.4.img for the Walsknail VRX
  • AvatarX_Gnd_38.43.4.img for Goggles X
  • Avatar_Gnd_38.43.4.img for gen 1 FPV headsets

The Walksinal firmware procedure for all compatible devices is well described in this online guide.

Walksnail 38.43.4: What’s new?

The v38.43.4 firmware was released on July 19 and, besides some bug fixes, brings the following upgrades:

  • Add Support for New Avatar 2W VTX
  • Enables Goggles Light Head Tracking
  •  Included Android APP for Goggles X (beta release)

Walksnail Goggles X mobile APP: FPV Feed on your Smartphone

The app’s beta release is compatible only with Android devices. It is available only through the official firmware upgrade kit and can’t be installed directly through the Google Play Store.

The Goggles X app must be installed after downloading and copying the “Caddxfpv_beta.apk” onto your phone’s memory. To connect the phone to the headset, you will need to enter the “12345678” WIFI password. Once connected, you will see the drone’s live video feed on your phone’s screen. There is no OSD or telemetry information, just a clean video feed that you can share with others. The app does not include any other features or extra settings.

I know that is only a beta release, but I expected more from this APP. The Avatar Goggles X is an excellent FPV headset, and I hope that it will be improved via future firmware upgrades and apps.
