The flying vlog camera – Your personal director

The DJI Flip features a smallish 1/1.3, 48-megapixel Quad Bayer sensor (12MP effective pixels) with the ability to record the flexible D-Log profile. The camera is mounted on a 3-axis gimbal for ultra-smooth footage in any flight conditions.

The Flip can record 4K@60p, which I find to be essentially necessary for any social media content creator. It also has a 4K100 slow-motion option and does 9:16 aspect 1080p and 2.7K at 24, 25, or 30fps. Additionally, the camera is compatible with neutral density (ND) filters, which is crucial since the aperture is fixed at f/1.7. ND filters are essential for controlling exposure and the look of your motion blur. The 6.7mm lens provides a full-frame equivalent field of view of a 24mm lens.

Flight performance: Range and Battery life

On a full charge, the DJI Flip can fly for up to 31 minutes, though the real-world tests indicate the actual time, considering factors like wind speed, maneuvers, and camera usage, is closer to 20–22 minutes.

The Flip features DJI’s latest OcuSync 4.0 transmission system that together with the RC 2 radio controller promise a range of 8 miles / 13km (in FCC mode). In Wi-Fi mode (direct phone control) is limited to 50 meters. It can fly at speeds up to 27 mph in Sport mode, with Normal and Cine modes also available for slower and smoother flight.
