DJI O4 Air Unit Pro and Avata 2 K&F Concept Filters Review

With ND8, ND16, ND32, ND64, UV, and PL filters, you are covered in all light conditions.

K&F Concept DJI Avata 2 - O4 Air Unit Pro filters

In this review, we’ll take an in-depth look at the DJI Avata 2/O4 Air Unit Pro Filter Set from K&F Concept, designed to enhance your aerial footage by providing precise light control and improved image clarity. This premium set includes six filters for managing exposure in various lighting conditions.

Neutral Density (ND) filters play a crucial role in enhancing the video quality of O4 Air Unit Pro-equipped FPV drones by controlling light exposure and maintaining cinematic motion blur. Since FPV drones often operate in bright outdoor conditions, excessive light can cause overexposure and unnatural-looking footage. ND filters help reduce shutter speed, achieving a smooth and professional look by following the 180-degree shutter rule. Additionally, they minimize glare, improve color depth, and enhance overall image clarity. Whether you’re capturing high-speed freestyle maneuvers or cinematic long-range flights, using ND filters ensures more balanced and visually appealing footage.

By using an Ultraviolet (UV) filter, FPV pilots can safeguard their O4 camera lens from potential damage while maintaining the highest optical quality during flights. These filters also help reduce haze in certain atmospheric conditions, improving contrast and sharpness. More importantly, they act as a protective barrier against dust, dirt, water splashes, and small debris—critical for FPV drones that often fly in rugged environments.

Neutral Density Filter

When flying over reflective surfaces like water, glass, or snow, unwanted glare can obscure details and diminish image quality. A Polarizing (PL) filter minimizes these reflections, making skies deeper, greens richer, and overall visuals more vibrant. This is particularly useful for cinematic O4 Pro FPV footage, where maintaining balanced exposure and natural contrast is key. By using a PL filter, pilots can achieve clearer, more professional-looking aerial footage, even in challenging lighting conditions.

Unboxing

At a glance

Last month, I had some insights that the O4 Air Unit Pro would be compatible with DJI Avata 2 filters. I contacted K&F Concept to see if they were interested in sending a set of filters for review. Two weeks later, I received their most comprehensive Nano-X filter kit, which includes ND8, ND16, ND32, ND64, UV, and PL. Additionally, the box also included a cleaning cloth. The Filter Set comes in the same type of transparent case with foam padding as all K&F Concept filters I reviewed before.

Avata 2 vs Avata 1 filter comparisson

As Avata 2 has a larger sensor compared to its predecessor, the size and design of the filter have been significantly changed. The new DJI O4 Air Unit Pro inherits the AVATA 2’s mounting system, making these filters compatible with both cameras.

To be as light as possible, the frame of the filter is made of plastic. On the scale, the six filters show about 7 grams, which means each filter weighs about 1.1-1.2 grams. Each filter is visibly labeled on the side and top of the frame, so you know at a glance which one you remove from the case.

Filter glass

The filters are made of high-quality AGC optical glass, with 28 multi-layer coatings, which help repel water, dust, and grease while also providing scratch resistance. The coating has held up well, despite touching the glass a few times and even landing in tall grass, I haven’t noticed any marks that couldn’t be wiped away with the included microfiber cloth.

ND32 filter installation on DJI O4 Air Unit Pro

The bayonet design makes it incredibly easy to mount and dismount the filters; you just need to clip it on with gentle force. I tested it with the DJI O4 Air Unit Pro, and it worked well with no frame in the image, even at the largest FOV setting. When installing it on the Avata 2, hold the gimbal while attaching the filter and avoid pushing too hard.

General Filter Guideline

By selecting the right filter based on lighting conditions, you can ensure balanced exposure, enhanced image quality, and a more cinematic FPV experience. Find below my recommendations for each of these filters:

1. UV Filter – Lens Protection & Clarity

  • Primarily used as a protective layer to shield the lens from dust, debris, and scratches.
  • Blocks UV rays and reduces haze in high-altitude or coastal environments.

2. PL (Polarizer) Filter – Reducing Glare & Enhancing Colors

  • It is ideal for the midday sun or when flying over bodies of water, urban areas, or landscapes with strong reflections.
  • Reduces reflections from water, glass, wet roads, and other reflective surfaces.
  • It enhances contrast and deepens colors, making skies look more vivid and greens richer.

3. ND Filters – Light Control & Motion Blur

ND filters reduce the amount of light entering the camera, helping to maintain proper exposure and achieve smooth motion blur.

  • [ND8 | 3f-stops] – Slightly reduces light; ideal for cloudy or overcast days when some light control is needed.
  • [ND16 | 4f-stops] – Best for partly cloudy conditions or early morning/late afternoon flights.
  • [ND32 | 5f-stops] – Designed for bright sunny days, preventing overexposure while maintaining cinematic motion blur.
  • [ND64 | 6f-stops] – Optimal for extremely bright environments, such as beaches, deserts, or snow-covered landscapes.

While the plastic frame keeps them lightweight, some pilots might prefer a more premium aluminum build for added durability.
