FIMI MINI 3: What’s new from its predecessors?

Feel Free to Fly with the New FIMI X8 MINI 3

FIMI X8 MINI 3

Here on FirstQuadcopter, we already reviewed the original FIMI MINI (1), and the MINI, and now it’s time to talk about the company’s latest sub-250g drone, the X8 MINI 3.

A few days ago, FIMI shared a teaser photo of their upcoming drone on their social media accounts. In design, the FIMI MINI 3 remained almost identical to its predecessor, without any obstacle avoidance system or other airframe upgrade. As we are already used to the drone class under 250 grams, the X8 MINI comes with two buttery options. The standard 2S 2200mAh LIION pack promises 32 minutes of battery life, and the 2cell 3100mAh LIION pack up to 37 minutes. The batteries support 9V/3A fast charging.

The FIMI MINI 3 has a new 3-axis gimbal camera with a large 1/2″ CMOS image sensor (48MP) and outstanding low-light performance. It can record 4K@60fps videos with up to 100Mbps. It can take 8064 x 6048 photos in compressed jpg or raw DNG format. The camera also supports 8K Time-Lapse Photography and AI Super Night Video.

Equipped with 2T AI computing power, the third-generation FIMI MINI can recognize over 30 targets, including people, animals, cars, boats, and others. It can instantly lock onto and track/follow the target in real-time. The MINI 3 utilizes its downside camera to recognize the drone pad and land directly on it.

It adopts a collapsible design, and with folded arms measures just 145 x 85 x 56mm.

FIMI MINI 3: SoLink long-range transmission system

Equipped with the new SoLink HD digital transmission system, the Fimi X8 MINI 3 achieves low-latency (120 milliseconds) high-definition rea-litem video transmission up to 9 kilometers away from the operator. It supports switching between 2.4Ghz and 5.8Gh to obtain the most stable signal possible for ultra-smooth video transmission

Pricing availability and options

The FIMI MINI v3 can be ordered from Bangood starting on 15 April 2024. The basic kit with one battery costs $399, and two flight batteries cost $459. Additionally, the Fly More combo kit includes a nice transportation bag.

  1. 394,10€??? I think this is a joke! For this money you can get a DJI drone with excellent support and care refresh not a FIMI drone that has no real support and spare parts availability…

    • AESA is a labyrinth but this is from their site:
“After 1 January 2024, you can still fly your drone without class identification labels, however, only under the following subcategories of operation, for which you have to fully comply with:

Subcategory A1 when the drone’s maximum take-off weight (MTOM) is less than 250 g; or
Subcategory A3 when the drone’s maximum take-off weight is less than 25 kg.

You will not need to apply any retrofit/sticker to the drone in subcategories A1 or A3. ”
You will need a registration (not remoteID) if the drone has a camera and is not a toy.
      —-
In other pages of the site they do suggest, but not oblige to have a remoteID after 1 gen. 2024 “Also legacy drones (unless they are lighter than 250 g) are recommended to be equipped with a remote ID”
As long as the category is C0.
It appear that C1 and C3 need now a remoteID
I believe this drone is a legacy drone as is within 250gr.
Then again get confusing.. from teh same AESA site:
“After 1 January 2024, you can still fly your drone without class identification labels, however, only under the following subcategories of operation, for which you have to fully comply with:

Subcategory A1 when the drone’s maximum take-off weight (MTOM) is less than 250 g; or
Subcategory A3 when the drone’s maximum take-off weight is less than 25 kg.

You will not need to apply any retrofit/sticker to the drone in subcategories A1 or A3. ”

To make it easy… drones C0 dont need remoteID.
Operator have to register and if the drone has a camera, I think you just need to add a sticker with QR code on it!
      Go figure!

  2. excepting the larger image sensor, no other upgrade on the v3, not even a facelift. FIMI we are bored to get the same drone in every year!!!!
